New from VBOX Motorsport

VBOX HD1 — Motorsport Video, Data & Lap Timing Camera

Professional VBOX Motorsport specification in the size of an action camera. Same workflow, same data rich overlays, same track focused engineering as VBOX Video HD2, built for drivers who need one camera view, a lighter footprint, or an easier way into the VBOX ecosystem.

Self-contained unit: camera, GNSS antenna, and logger built into one 167 g body
Starts and stops recording on its own, GPS speed-triggered
Three adjustable fields of view: 66°, 92°, 132°
Two CAN buses, up to 80 channels, CAN 2.0 and CAN FD
HDMI output for live streaming or an external monitor
Circuit Tools 3 analysis software included, no subscription

What Is the VBOX HD1?

The VBOX HD1 is the newest generation of VBOX Video: a purpose built motorsport action camera that combines high definition video recording with GPS based data logging, live telemetry overlays, and automatic lap timing. It runs the identical workflow and behavior as the VBOX Video HD2, so if you already know HD2, you already know HD1. There is nothing new to learn.

Unlike a consumer action camera, the HD1 knows it is on a racetrack. It is powered directly by the car, no batteries to charge between sessions, starts recording automatically as soon as you move, and is built to run reliably at track day operating temperatures from -20°C to +60°C.

See It In Action

Real in-car footage from the VBOX HD1, with the live data overlay generated automatically alongside the recording.

Key Capabilities

Latest Generation Recording

H.265 (HEVC) encoding at 1080p 30fps with dynamic bit rate, roughly 8.5 GB per hour, tested with SD cards up to 512 GB.

Never Miss a Session

Records only when moving by default, with continuous, manual, and advanced signal-triggered logging also available. Up to 30 seconds of pre-buffer captures the moments just before you start rolling.

Motorsport-Grade GNSS

25 Hz multi-constellation GPS logging with 0.1 km/h velocity accuracy and ±2 m 95% CEP position accuracy, the same precision as VBOX Video HD2.

Stream It Live

Built-in Micro HDMI 1.3 output streams real-time video, audio, and graphic overlays at up to 1920 x 1080 straight to a monitor or broadcast feed.

Predictive Lap Timing

Add the Racelogic OLED or Mini OLED display to see live delta timing on track, lap after lap, resolved to 0.01s.

Auto Track Database & Track Map

HD1 automatically recognizes circuits and start/finish lines. No manual track configuration required.

Two CAN Buses, Up to 80 Channels

Logs CAN messages across two isolated buses simultaneously, both CAN 2.0 and CAN FD compatible, plus CAN output in the Racelogic message set for driving external displays and dashboards.

Three Fields of View

Choose Narrow (66°), Normal (92°), or Wide (132°) to frame the shot exactly how you want it, set from the VBOX Video app.

Built for Motorsport

Splash proof, light rain resistant, with a replaceable toughened glass lens cover and a dedicated tether point for scrutineering.

Set Up From Your Phone

The VBOX Video app connects over Wi-Fi for a live camera preview and quick setup, trackside.

Expandable Sensor Inputs

Compatible with Racelogic Micro and Mini Input Modules for additional analog sensor channels, plus internal microphone with external mic or intercom input.

Circuit Tools 3, Included Free

Analyze your own data and find time on track with Circuit Tools, rated by users as the most intuitive circuit analysis software available. No subscription, no paywall.

Why VBOX HD1?

HD1 brings professional VBOX Motorsport specification to a wider audience. Its lower price and smaller footprint reflect the single-camera format, not a reduction in data quality, reliability, or capability. HD1 and HD2 are not in competition, they simply serve different installs.

Already running VBOX Video HD2? HD1 makes an easy second car, a driver coach unit, or a temporary install, since the software and data are identical. Running AiM, MoTeC, or another dash? HD1 adds video and CAN-synced data recording alongside your existing setup rather than replacing it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to relearn my workflow if I already use a VBOX Video HD2?

No. The HD1 uses the identical workflow and behavior as the HD2, including the VBOX Video app and Circuit Tools 3. There's nothing new to learn.

What's the difference between HD1 and HD2?

Mainly camera count and footprint. See our HD1 vs HD2 buyer's guide for the full side-by-side.

Does the HD1 need to be manually started when I go on track?

No. It starts recording automatically as soon as movement is detected by default, so you never miss a session. Continuous, manual, and signal-triggered recording modes are also available.

Can the HD1 log data from more than one CAN bus?

Yes. It logs up to 80 CAN signals across two isolated buses simultaneously, supporting both CAN 2.0 and CAN FD.

Can I add predictive lap timing to my HD1?

Yes. Pair it with the Racelogic OLED Display or the smaller Mini OLED Display for live delta timing at the wheel, or buy either Track Package version with the display already included.

Will the HD1 work alongside my existing dash or logger?

In most cases yes, it's built to add on rather than replace. Full compatibility notes for AiM, MoTeC, and other CAN-output systems are in the buyer's guide.
