What Is the VBOX Video HD1?

VBOX Video HD1 is a compact, single-camera video data logger from VBOX Motorsport. It records 1080p video, 25 Hz GNSS position and speed, and data from two CAN buses, then locks all of it to one timeline with a live graphic overlay burned into the footage. Racelogic calls it the most accessible VBOX Video product they have ever made.

It was designed for the track from the start rather than adapted from a consumer camera. HD1 runs on vehicle power, starts recording the moment the car moves, and is rated from -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to +60°C). Everything that makes VBOX Video HD2 the standard in so many paddocks carries over: the same GNSS accuracy, the same CAN capability, the same VBOX Video app and the same Circuit Tools 3 analysis. If you already run HD2, there is nothing new to learn.

Features

Never Miss a Session

Speed-triggered logging starts HD1 when the car moves and stops it when you park, so there are no forgotten sessions and no hours of paddock footage. A configurable pre-buffer of up to 30 seconds catches the moments before you roll, including a standing start.

Built for Motorsport

Vehicle-powered, rated from -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to +60°C), with a reinforced body, a replaceable toughened-glass lens cover and a tether point to keep the unit secure and scrutineering-compliant.

Live Data Overlay

Speed, g-force, lap times and a track map are embedded in the 1080p video and synced frame by frame, along with throttle, brake pressure, gear, temperatures or any other ECU or dash channel. Build your own scenes or use the ready-made layouts.

Plug and Play

One unit, one cable. The camera, GNSS receiver and recorder share a single housing, so setup is mount it, power it, drive. A roll cage mount comes in the box.

Set Up From Your Phone

The VBOX Video app for iOS and Android connects over Wi-Fi for a live camera preview, so you can frame the shot, fine-tune orientation and choose the field of view from the driver's seat.

Three Fields of View

Switch between Narrow (66°), Normal (92°) and Wide (132°) without moving the camera. Pick the framing that suits the car, from an open single-seater to a full-cabin sedan.

One Camera. Two CAN Buses.

HD1 logs CAN messages across two isolated buses, supporting CAN 2.0 and CAN FD, up to 80 channels in total. If your ECU or dash puts it on the bus, HD1 can record it next to the video.

Predictive Lap Timing

Add a VBOX OLED or Mini OLED display to see your live delta to your best lap while you drive, updated in real time and accurate to 0.01 s.

Track Database with Auto Track Map

HD1 recognizes the circuit you are on and loads the start/finish line and track map by itself. No manual track setup before the session.

Stream It Live

The Micro HDMI output sends real-time video, audio and overlay graphics to a monitor, recorder or streaming device at up to 1920 x 1080.

Latest-Generation Recording

H.265 (HEVC) encoding with a dynamic bit rate gives sharp 1080p video at about 8.5 GB per hour. Tested with SD cards up to 512 GB.

Record-Grade GNSS

A 25 Hz multi-constellation receiver with 0.06 mph (0.1 km/h) velocity accuracy, from the same company trusted to provide measurement for world record attempts.

Why HD1?

Vs. other video data loggers

Quick to set up. Certain to record.

One housing and one cable keep the setup simple, and the VBOX Video app gets the shot framed in minutes. Circuit Tools 3 is consistently rated by users as one of the most intuitive analysis packages available.

Most of all, HD1 is built around reliability. You should never leave pit lane wondering if the video and data will be there when you get back.

Vs. AI coaching systems

Consistency gets you close. Data finds the rest.

Real-time coaching tools do a great job of helping you repeat your best lap. HD1 is about beating it.

Circuit Tools 3 puts the braking point, apex speed and throttle trace behind every tenth side by side with the video, lap against lap, so you can see where the time is and understand why.

Vs. action cameras

It knows it's at the track.

Powered by the car, HD1 records when you are on track and stops when you are not. There is no battery to charge, no record button to forget, and it is rated for hot closed cabins and open cockpits alike.

Your speed, g-force and lap times live in the footage too, not just the view out the windshield.

Deciding between one camera and two? Our HD1 vs HD2 comparison guide breaks down every difference, including how HD1 sits alongside an existing AiM or MoTeC setup.

Circuit Tools 3: Free. Always.

WindowsmacOSiOS

Circuit Tools has been a standard driver analysis package for more than a decade. HD1 owners get full access from day one, and every future update is included. It is powerful enough for professional teams and still useful from the first session for a driver who has never looked at data before.

Fastest Lap & Ideal Lap

Your quickest lap from the latest session is selected automatically. The Ideal Lap stitches your best sectors from every loaded session into a theoretical best, showing exactly how much time is still available.

Delta-T & Live Channels

See time gained or lost against a reference lap, sample by sample. Values at the cursor show speed, delta, or any logged CAN channel.

Side-by-Side Video

Play synced 1080p video from two sessions next to each other, in slow motion or frame by frame, to compare the line two drivers took.

Auto Track Map

Recognizes your circuit from a database of more than 1,000 tracks and splits laps at the start/finish line. At a track that isn't listed, automatic corner detection maps it for you.

Satellite & Heat Map Views

View your driven line over satellite imagery with corner labels, or color the lap by any channel to spot where temperatures, pressures or delta time spike.

Insights

Step corner by corner through a lap. Braking and turn-in grip are scored against a target you set, with prompts like "Check trail braking," then roll it all into a shareable Track Report.

In Plain Terms: a corner where you gained two tenths stops being a mystery. Was it the braking point, the apex, or the throttle application? The trace and the video answer it together.

Take the Feed Beyond the Car

HD1's HDMI output sends live video with the overlay already included to a streaming device, monitor or recorder. For race teams, club organizers and anyone who wants their footage to reach further than their own laptop, it opens up a lot.

Live Event Coverage

In-car feed with live data for broadcasts and event streams.

Pit Wall Display

Let the crew see what the driver sees, with speed and lap data on screen.

Driver Coaching

Coaches can follow the session live instead of waiting for the download.

Social Media

Send overlay-ready footage straight out for sharing.

Choose Your HD1 Package

HD1 comes in three configurations. The base kit has everything needed to start recording. The two display packages add live predictive lap timing at the wheel.
