Garmin Catalyst™ Driving Performance Optimizer

The track coach that started the category: a 7-inch touchscreen for instant session review in the paddock, a separate 1080p Remote Cam, and real-time audio coaching built around True Optimal Lap™.

Overview

What Is It

Garmin's original driving performance optimizer, built around a large dash-mounted display.

Garmin Catalyst (010-02345-00) was the first driving performance optimizer to put a coach in the cockpit. A 6.95-inch touchscreen mounts on the dash, a compact 1080p Remote Cam mounts on the windshield, and the system combines 10 Hz multi-GNSS positioning, accelerometers, and image processing to map your exact line around the track.

Where it really stands apart is session review. The moment you pull into the paddock, the full analysis is right there on the big screen: your True Optimal Lap video, your biggest areas of gain, and lap-by-lap comparisons, with no phone or laptop needed. Summaries also sync to Garmin Connect™ when you want to look back later.

Key Features at a Glance

7-Inch On-Device Review

A 1024 x 600 IPS touchscreen for reviewing sessions, video, and coaching suggestions right in the paddock.

Separate 1080p Remote Cam

A 140° field-of-view camera mounts independently on the windshield, so the lens and the screen each go where they work best.

Real-Time Audio Cues

Coaching through your Bluetooth® headset or car stereo, plus a running read on whether you're ahead or behind your previous laps.

True Optimal Lap™

Calculates your best drivable time from lines you actually drove, then shows it to you as a composite video.

10 Hz GPS + GLONASS

True Track Positioning™ plots your racing line against the track edges using multi-GNSS and built-in accelerometers.

Up to 2 Hours on Battery

A rechargeable battery plus a powered magnetic mount for clean, continuous 12V operation in the car.

Who It's For

Why Drivers Still Choose the Original

  • Big-screen review in the paddock: study your True Optimal Lap and areas of gain on a 6.95-inch display without reaching for a phone.
  • Flexible camera placement: the Remote Cam and the display mount separately, which helps in tight cockpits or cars with a crowded windshield.
  • Longer battery runtime: up to 2 hours of internal battery between charges.
  • Generous storage: 16 GB internal memory plus a pre-installed 32 GB microSD card, with two more card slots for expansion.
  • A lower entry point: the full True Optimal Lap and audio coaching experience at a lower price than Catalyst 2.

FAQ

Common Questions

Can I review my session without a phone or laptop?

Yes. That's one of the original Catalyst's biggest strengths. Your True Optimal Lap video, areas of gain, and lap comparisons are all available on the 6.95-inch touchscreen as soon as you come off track.

Where does the Remote Cam mount?

The Remote Cam attaches with an adhesive mount and connects through an 11.5 ft (3.5 m) cable, so it can sit wherever it gets a clean forward view without dictating where the display goes. An extra adhesive is included in the box.

How long does the battery last?

Up to 2 hours on the internal battery. The included powered magnetic mount lets you run the unit on the car's power for longer days.

Are tracks already loaded?

Yes. Catalyst ships with a global database of road courses, and both software and track database updates download over Wi-Fi.

Should I choose Catalyst or Catalyst 2?

If you want analysis on a large screen right in the paddock and the freedom to place the camera separately, the original Catalyst is a great fit. If you'd rather run a single compact unit with 1440p video, 25 Hz positioning, and review on your phone or tablet, look at Catalyst 2. Both coach you in real time, and both use True Optimal Lap.
