A rear-facing racing radar that tracks up to 8 vehicles at once and puts approach alerts directly in your line of sight, so you can watch the mirror without watching a mirror.

The Catalyst R1 mounts a radar sensor to the rear of the car and pairs it with two heads-up indicator lights mounted in the driver's peripheral vision. The radar continuously scans a 170° field behind the car, tracking up to 8 approaching vehicles at once, and translates that into simple light signals: which side traffic is on, and how close it is. You never have to glance at a screen or a mirror to know someone's closing.
It's built for exactly the scenarios where mirrors alone fall short: dense multi-class endurance traffic, defending a position in a sprint race, or just building confidence in a busy HPDE session where faster and slower traffic is mixed together on track.
170° radar coverage detects approaching vehicles up to 197 ft (60 m) away, and tracks up to 8 of them at once.
Two indicator lights mount directly in your peripheral vision, so alerts register without pulling your eyes off the racing line.
The Garmin Catalyst Radar app shows live radar data for setup, angle checking, and dialing in alert sensitivity.
Sealed against dust and short water immersion, and rated to operate from -4°F to 131°F (-20°C to 55°C).
Choose More, Standard, Less, or Off in the app to control how early and how often you're alerted.
Wire it to switched power for automatic on/off with the car, or run it standalone with the device button.
Each indicator has amber and red LEDs. The side that lights up tells you which side the traffic is on.

Alert sensitivity (More, Standard, Less, or Off) controls how many of these stages actually trigger a flash, set it in the Garmin Catalyst Radar app. At speeds where a car can close a gap in a couple of car lengths, treat each stage as a cue to act, not a countdown to read.
The R1 tells you someone's back there. A rear-view camera system shows you exactly what they're doing. Pair it with the Gentex GNTX-R 2.0, which integrates a display directly into the mirror housing, or our own CMS Motorsport Camera System, which uses a separate dash-mounted monitor you can place anywhere in your field of view.

The Catalyst R1 is intended for recreational use on a closed racetrack only, never on public roadways. It's designed to supplement, not replace, driver attentiveness, mirrors, and spotter communication. Adverse weather and wet track surfaces can interfere with radar performance, and vehicles traveling outside the 15 to 177 mph detection range may not be detected. Always maintain awareness of your surroundings and drive in a safe, prudent manner.
No. The R1 works as a standalone device using just the radar status LED and the two heads-up indicator lights. The free Garmin Catalyst Radar app is useful for initial setup, checking the radar angle, and adjusting alert sensitivity, but it's not required while driving.
The red LED flashes in three stages as a car closes in: three flashes means it's in range and being tracked, two flashes means it's closing fast, and one flash means an overtake is imminent. A solid red light means it's directly behind you. At track speeds, treat each stage as an escalating signal to react, not a countdown to watch.
Up to 197 ft (60 m) behind the car, across a 170° field, and it can track up to 8 vehicles at once. It detects the relative closing speed of approaching vehicles from 0 to 43 mph, while your own car is traveling between 15 and 177 mph.
No. Garmin specifies this device for recreational use on a closed racetrack only, not on public roadways.
Garmin recommends it. The power cable connects to your vehicle's 12 to 24V electrical system, and incorrect wiring can damage the vehicle, the battery, or the device. If you're wiring directly to the battery, you'll also need to install the included in-line fuse.
The unit itself is IP67 rated and sealed against water and dust, but Garmin notes that adverse weather and wet track surfaces can interfere with radar performance. Treat it as a supplement to your mirrors and awareness, especially in the wet.
