Gear Shift Servo

A Le Mans-winning gear shift actuator with the valves built right in, so there's virtually no air path between valve and piston, meaning faster shifts and less air consumed on every change.

Overview

What Is It

A shift actuator and valve block combined into one compact unit.

Most pneumatic shift systems need a separate valve block feeding air to the actuator through a length of hose. The Gear Shift Servo (GSS) does away with that by custom designing the shift valves directly into the actuator body, essentially combining a shift actuator with a valve block in one part. Because there's virtually zero air path length between the valve's exit port and the actuator's piston, that translates directly into faster system response and a marked drop in air consumption, and it also means your install only needs a single air line and a single wiring connector instead of a valve block, hoses, and two connectors.

The body and valve block are CNC machined from high grade aluminum billet and protectively anodized. Low friction seals give the durable chrome rod smooth movement and a quick, accurate return to rest. Adjustable rod ends on both the body and piston rod mean it fits most applications. It's been a proven winner in GT and single-seater racing worldwide, including victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours, and has also seen success in WRC and off-road competition.

Key Features at a Glance

Under 10 ms Valve Response

Valves built directly into the actuator body mean a near-zero air path and a fast, crisp shift.

No Separate Valve Block

One air line, one wiring connector, no valve block to package and plumb separately.

Le Mans-Winning Pedigree

Proven across GT, single-seater, WRC, and off-road competition worldwide.

34 mm Total Stroke

±17 mm stroke with adjustable rod ends on both the body and piston rod for a fit on most applications.

Low-Friction, Filtered

Low friction seals and a durable chrome rod, protected by integrated air filters for long service life.

DTM or Autosport Connector

Order with a DTM connector (ZF203-1) or a motorsport Autosport connector (ZF206-1).

Because the Valves Are Built In

You won't need a separate valve block for this actuator, but you'll still want a compressor and accumulator supplying it air.

Installation Notes

  • Requires a clean, dry air supply and installation away from direct heat sources.
  • Do not strain or side-load the actuator, allow free and easy movement.
  • Preferred mounting is with the valves at the lowest point.
  • Use copperslip on hose fittings, not Loctite or PTFE tape, and aluminum or stainless steel fittings only.
  • Mount the actuator at 90° to the actuator clevis, with rest position at the mid-point of the stroke.
  • Upshift is normally the rod extending from the actuator, downshift is retraction.
  • Keep the rod clean of dirt and debris, and service every 30 hours or 6,000 km.

FAQ

Common Questions

Do I still need a valve block with this actuator?

No. The shift valves are custom built into the actuator body itself, so there's no separate valve block to install, just a single air line and wiring connector.

Which connector should I order?

ZF203-1 uses a DTM connector, ZF206-1 uses a motorsport Autosport connector. Match whichever your wiring harness is built around.

How often does it need servicing?

Every 30 hours or 6,000 km, whichever comes first.
