A professional-grade, high-speed CAN steering position sensor built for the precise vehicle dynamics data motorsport applications demand.

Overview

Key Features at a Glance

GMR Absolute Angle Sensing

Giant Magneto Resistive technology measures absolute steering angle with no mechanical wear components.

±780° Steering Angle

Covers well over two full lock-to-lock turns for accurate range on virtually any race car.

Up to 1,016°/Second

Tracks even the fastest steering inputs without losing accuracy.

500 kb/s CAN Output

High-speed CAN communication for direct integration with ABS, ECUs, and data loggers.

100 Hz Update Rate

A fresh reading every 10 ms, fast enough for real-time control and detailed post-session analysis.

Compact & Lightweight

About 1.2 oz (34 g), in a housing built to survive harsh racing environments.

Precision Steering Data Without the Wear

The Bosch Motorsport Steering Angle Sensor, or known as the LWS (Lenkwinkelsensor) in German, is a professional-grade, high-speed CAN steering position sensor built for motorsport applications where precise vehicle dynamics data is critical. Whether you're integrating a Bosch Motorsport ABS M5 Kit, a MoTeC ECU, a Bosch Motorsport ECU, or a professional data acquisition system, the LWS delivers accurate steering wheel angle and steering rate information at 100 Hz over 500 kb/s CAN.

Unlike basic potentiometer-based steering sensors, the Bosch LWS uses Giant Magneto Resistive (GMR) technology to provide absolute steering angle measurement without mechanical wear. The result is reliable, repeatable steering position data that holds up in the harsh environments found in endurance racing, GT3, Time Attack, rally, off-road, and custom performance builds.

Why Buy Your LWS from Creative Motorsport Solutions?

A steering angle sensor is only as good as the integration behind it. Getting clean, reliable data out of the LWS comes down to correct wiring, the right CAN configuration, and knowing how it talks to your ABS, ECU, or logger.

Creative Motorsport Solutions has been active in professional and club racing for over 20 years, and we're an authorized Bosch Motorsport dealer. We stock genuine Bosch Motorsport sensors in the United States for fast delivery, and our team is available before and after the sale to help with wiring, CAN integration, and configuration questions. When you purchase from Creative Motorsport Solutions, you're working with specialists who use these systems, not simply another online reseller.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the LWS actually measure?

It measures absolute steering wheel angle, up to ±780°, and steering rate, up to 1,016° per second, then transmits both over 500 kb/s CAN at a 100 Hz update rate.

How is this different from a basic potentiometer steering sensor?

A potentiometer sensor relies on a physical wiper that wears over time and can drift. The LWS uses Giant Magneto Resistive (GMR) technology instead, so there are no mechanical wear components and the absolute angle reading stays accurate and repeatable over the life of the sensor.

Does the sensor need calibration?

Yes, it supports basic configuration over CAN. Command 0x03 zeroes the steering angle at the current position, and command 0x05 resets calibration if needed.

Can I use this with a MoTeC ECU?

Yes. The LWS outputs standard CAN messages that integrate directly with Bosch Motorsport ABS, Bosch ECUs, MoTeC ECUs, and most professional data loggers.

Does the LWS pair with the Bosch ABS M5?

Yes. The LWS is commonly paired with the Bosch Motorsport ABS M5 to provide steering-referenced ABS control alongside the ABS M5's own wheel speed and yaw data.

What connector does the LWS use?

It uses a Bosch 7-pole motorsport connector. The mating connector part number is F02U.B00.656-01, and it's not the same as the ABS M5's wheel speed sensor connectors.

Is the mating connector included?

Not by default. Choose the "Connector Included" option when ordering, or purchase the sensor alone and source the mating connector, F02U.B00.656-01, separately.
