A stainless steel, ratiometric pressure sensor built for chassis and engine circuits alike, from brake and gearshift pressure to oil, water, and fuel, offered across nine calibrated ranges on one M10x1 body.

Overview

What Is It

A linear, active piezoresistive pressure transducer built entirely from AISI 316L stainless steel.

This sensor reads pressure with a piezoresistive element and outputs a linear, ratiometric voltage, so it drops straight into any ECU, logger, or dash input built for a standard 0.5 to 4.5 V pressure sensor. Because the core and body are machined from AISI 316L stainless steel, and the diaphragm resists the chemical attack of standard motorsport fluids, the same sensor body works equally well reading air, water, oil, fuel, or brake pressure. That versatility, combined with the M10x1 thread already common on engine and chassis pressure ports, is why it shows up across both engine-side and chassis-side circuits on the same car.

It ships with an integrated Packard connector on most ranges. A free-wires version is available on request if you'd rather terminate the loom yourself.

All nine ranges share the same M10x1 body. Overload rating is the pressure the sensor can briefly survive without damage, not a usable measurement range.

SP35 ships with a 450 mm free-wires lead rather than the Packard connector used on the other ranges. Per AvioRace's datasheet, a free-wires version is available on request for any range.

Buyer's Guide

Which Range for Which Circuit

General guidance based on common motorsport practice, not a substitute for checking your own system's expected peak pressure.

  • 2.5 to 4.5 absolute bar: low-pressure air, gas, or blowby measurement, where the absolute reference matters more than raw range.
  • 6 bar: coolant pressure or crankcase pressure.
  • 10 bar: engine oil pressure or fuel pressure on most naturally aspirated and moderately boosted engines.
  • 35 to 50 bar: automatic transmission line pressure or torque converter pressure.
  • 100 bar: nitrous bottle pressure.
  • 150 to 250 bar: brake line pressure, or high-pressure hydraulic circuits.

When in doubt, size up rather than down. A sensor reading well under its full-scale range gives you more usable resolution than one you've pushed past its overload rating.

Before You Install

Installation Notes

  • Do not exceed the maximum tightening torque of 11 lb-ft (15 Nm) when installing.
  • Size the range to your circuit's expected peak pressure with margin. Staying within the standard range, rather than relying on the overload rating, keeps accuracy and sensor life where they should be.
  • The SPA2.5 and SPA4.5 ranges read absolute pressure, intended for air, gas, or blowby measurement rather than fluid circuits.
  • A free-wires version is available on request if you're not using the integrated Packard connector.

Common Questions

What's the difference between the absolute ranges (SPA2.5, SPA4.5) and the rest?

The SPA2.5 and SPA4.5 ranges read absolute pressure and are intended for air, gas, or blowby measurement. The SP6 through SP250 ranges are intended for air, water, oil, and fuel circuits.

What voltage and connector does this sensor use?

It runs on a 5 V supply and outputs a ratiometric 0.5 to 4.5 V analog signal. Most ranges ship with an integrated Packard connector; the SP35 range ships with a 450 mm free-wires lead instead. A free-wires version is available on request for any range.

Can this sensor handle fuel and other aggressive fluids?

Yes. The core, body, and diaphragm are AISI 316L stainless steel, chosen specifically to resist the chemical attack of standard motorsport fluids, including fuel, oil, and coolant.

What's the difference between this and the miniaturized version?

Both use the same piezoresistive sensing technology. The miniaturized version is a smaller package that ships as a flying lead rather than an integrated connector, useful where the standard M10x1 body doesn't physically fit.
