Side Mount Throttle Blipper

A compact, billet-machined nudger that blips the throttle on every downshift, for cars running a traditional cable throttle rather than drive-by-wire.

Overview

What Is It

A mechanical throttle blipper for cable-throttle cars running a paddle shift system.

Any paddle shift gear change system needs to blip the engine on downshifts, so the engine speed matches the gearbox input shaft during the change. On a drive-by-wire car, that's handled electronically. On a car with a traditional cable throttle, it needs a pneumatically operated mechanical blipper instead, and that's exactly what this is. It nudges the throttle linkage directly on command, reducing stress on the gearbox and tires, and helping prevent wheel lock-up in wet conditions during downshifts.

Machined from aluminum billet and protectively anodized, it mounts with two bolt holes for a simple, secure installation. The stroke itself is fixed, but an adjustable end nudger lets you fine-tune exactly how much blip the engine gets.

Nudger or Cable Pull?

This is the nudge-style blipper, which acts against the throttle linkage itself and needs to mount close to the engine. If you'd rather mount the blipper away from the engine and act directly on the throttle cable, see our Cable Pull Blipper instead.

Installation Notes

  • Do not strain or side-load the pipework and fittings.
  • Use copperslip on hose fittings, not Loctite or PTFE tape, and aluminum or stainless steel fittings only.
  • The amount of blip required depends on engine characteristics, roughly 25% is a good starting point.
  • Ensure the nudger end makes smooth contact with the throttle linkage, starting at 90°.

FAQ

Common Questions

Do I need this if my car has drive-by-wire throttle?

No. A mechanical blipper is only needed on cars with a traditional cable throttle. Drive-by-wire cars handle the throttle blip electronically instead.

How much should I set the blip to?

It depends on your engine, but roughly 25% is a good starting point before fine-tuning with the adjustable end nudger.

What's the difference between this and the Cable Pull Blipper?

This side mount version nudges the throttle linkage directly and needs to be positioned near it. The Cable Pull Blipper instead acts on the throttle cable's outer sleeve, which lets it mount away from the engine.
