Wiper Direct Drive WDD2

A fully programmable, CAN/LIN-controlled wiper motor that replaces the motor, gearbox, and external linkage of a conventional wiper system with a single sealed housing.

Overview

What Is It

A direct-reversing wiper motor with the electronics built in, controlled entirely over CAN or LIN.

A conventional wiper motor spins continuously in one direction through 360°, with an external gear and linkage converting that rotation into the back-and-forth sweep of the arm. The WDD2 does away with that entirely. Its motor reverses direction directly, and the gear, motor, and control electronics all live inside one compact housing, so there's no external linkage to package, seal, or maintain.

Every function of the WDD2, operating speed, sweep angle, park position, and mode, is set through CAN or LIN messages rather than physical adjustment. The electronics detect and store your CAN bus speed automatically on first startup, so integration into an existing electrical architecture doesn't require a separate configuration step.

Key Features at a Glance

All-in-One Housing

Motor, gear drive, and control electronics integrated into a single unit, no external gearbox or linkage required.

CAN and LIN Control

Configure operating mode, speed, and end positions through CAN messaging (500 kb/s or 1,000 kb/s) or a 19.2 kb/s LIN bus.

Fully Programmable

Wiping angle up to 345°, up to 63 cycles per minute, and eight selectable operating modes, all set electronically.

12V and 24V Compatible

Runs across a 9 to 32 V range, at home in a car or a truck/endurance platform on the same part number.

34 Nm of Torque

Enough torque to move a large wiper blade reliably at speed, with up to 63 wipe cycles per minute for heavy rain.

Two Shaft Lengths

85 mm short shaft or 105 mm long shaft, both electrically identical, sharing the same connector and control protocol.

Choose Your Configuration

Shaft Length & Kit Options

Select shaft length and whether you need the bare motor or the kit with the mating connector, using the options above.

Option Order number Notes
Short Shaft (85 mm) F02U.V03.657-01 For installations built around the shorter shaft length
Long Shaft (105 mm) F02U.V03.658-01 Direct replacement for the original WDD2 motor
Kit (either shaft length) Includes F02U.B01.350-01 Adds the Molex 31034-5016 mating connector alongside the motor

Both shaft lengths use the same electronics, connector, and CAN/LIN protocol, the only difference is physical shaft length.

Proven Across Professional Racing

The WDD2 is heavily used across NASCAR, ARCA, and Trans Am, series where visibility in traffic and durability over a full stint both matter, alongside endurance racing, GT platforms, and custom motorsport builds. Its sealed, linkage-free design holds up to the vibration and duty cycle of a full race weekend better than a conventional wiper system.

Beyond the Racetrack

The same CAN/LIN-programmable, all-in-one design that suits a race car also fits low-volume and specialty vehicle manufacturers, where a compact, software-configurable wiper solution simplifies a custom electrical architecture without the packaging demands of a conventional linkage system. We've supplied the WDD2 to manufacturers building this kind of specialty vehicle, not just race teams.

ECU & Software Compatibility

The WDD2 is compatible with upcoming Bosch Motorsport MS6 and MS7 Base-SW releases, and is currently supported with the PBX90_BASE_0262, PBX190_BASE_0262, PBX90SL_0112, and PBX190SL_0112 software versions. If your project runs on an earlier base software version, confirm compatibility before ordering.

Before You Install

Installation Notes

  • Ships with three pre-assembled mounting screws (self-tapping, DIN 7500, M6x19), tightened to 5.9 to 6.6 lb-ft (8 to 9 Nm).
  • CAN bus speed is auto-detected and stored on first connection. Any later change in CAN speed is detected on the next startup and takes effect after a power cycle.
  • Make sure the wiper is within its workspace (between upper and lower limits) when restarting after a power failure.
  • For high-vibration installations, Bosch's own silentblock accessory (order F02U.003.027-01) can improve durability.
  • For severe-duty or high-volume applications, contact your Bosch Motorsport representative to define an appropriate validation program.
  • Keep the unit within its rated environmental specifications at all times.

FAQ

Common Questions

Which shaft length do I need?

The 105 mm long shaft is a direct replacement for the original WDD2 motor. The 85 mm short shaft is for installations built around the shorter length. Both are electrically identical, sharing the same connector and CAN/LIN protocol, so the choice comes down to your mounting depth.

What's the difference between the bare motor and the kit?

The kit adds the Molex 31034-5016 mating connector alongside the motor, so you have everything needed to terminate the harness side. The bare motor option is for builds where you already have the connector on hand.

Do I need CAN or LIN, or can I use either?

Either. The WDD2 accepts both CAN (500 kb/s or 1,000 kb/s) and LIN (19.2 kb/s) messaging, and its electronics automatically detect and store your CAN bus speed on first startup.

Is this only used in racing?

No. While it's heavily used across NASCAR, ARCA, and Trans Am along with endurance and GT racing, the same programmable, all-in-one design also fits low-volume and specialty vehicle manufacturers who need a compact, software-configurable wiper solution.

What happens if power is lost mid-wipe?

Make sure the wiper is within its workspace, between its upper and lower limits, before restarting after a power failure. Restarting outside that range can cause incorrect operation.
