OnRace TPMS: Wireless Tire Pressure & Temperature Monitoring

Real-time pressure, temperature, and (now) tire carcass data, transmitted wirelessly from every wheel to a receiver mounted in the car. Built for everything from club racers to LMP and GT3 programs.

Formerly known as TireWatch, they have joined forces with OnRace and rebranded. Same proven hardware, new name.

The Basics

How the system works

Every OnRace TPMS system is built from the same three building blocks. What changes between setups is how the sensors get located to a corner, and how the RCU picks up their signal.

1

Wheel Sensors

A powered sensor at each valve hole measures pressure and temperature and transmits it over RF, changing to a faster transmit rate automatically under acceleration.

2

Receiver Control Unit (RCU)

The RCU, mounted in the car, picks up the RF signal from all four sensors in real time and figures out which wheel is which.

3

CAN Output

Pressure, temperature, and diagnostic data are sent out over CAN bus (up to 1Mbps) straight into your logger or display.

Step 1: Choose Your Receiver

Gen 4 (Dual Antenna) vs. Gen 5 (Single Antenna) RCU

Both RCUs run the same electronics and both work with the Auto-Locator left/right side sensors by rotation direction, or the Tire Location Module (TLM) sensors. The decision between them almost always comes down to one thing: how much carbon fiber is between the RCU and the wheels, and whether you need the extra reception margin that gives you.

Gen 4 Receiver Control Unit

$4,158.00
  • Antennas2
  • Mass107g
  • Size80 × 42 × 20mm
  • RF Frequency433.92MHz
Best for: heavily carbon-bodied cars, full prototypes, closed-cockpit GT cars, anything with a lot of carbon fiber surrounding the RCU's mounting location. The second antenna gives the system a redundant reception path, so signal strength holds up even when carbon is attenuating the RF link.

GT3 / GT4 Gen 5 Receiver Control Unit

$4,158.00
  • Antennas1
  • Mass68g
  • Size40 × 42 × 20mm
  • RF Frequency433.92MHz
Best for: cars without significant carbon fiber shielding the RCU location, tube-frame, steel, or aluminum-bodied cars. At 39g lighter and less than half the physical size of the Gen 4, it's the easy choice whenever reception isn't a concern.

Step 2: Choose How Sensors Get Located

Auto-Locator Sensors vs. the TLM System

Both methods use the exact same wheel sensor hardware, the difference is entirely in how the system figures out which corner each sensor is sitting on.

Auto-Locator (LOC Series) TLM System (formerly LID)
Setup Enter sensor IDs into the OnRace software and mark which are front, which are rear Upload all sensor IDs, no manual front/rear or side assignment needed
Corner detection RCU auto-locates left vs. right by each sensor's rotation direction One LF module per corner detects exactly which corner each sensor is on
Extra hardware None, just the RCU and sensors 4x Tire Location Module (TLM), one per corner
Ideal for Standard setups where you're comfortable pre-sorting sensor IDs by axle Cars that don't run offset (staggered) front/rear wheel sizes, crews can grab any wheel off the rack without pre-sorting it by corner
Required for IR sensors No Yes

Infrared (IR) Tire Carcass Temperature Sensors

Now available! An evolution of the standard wheel sensor that adds real-time infrared measurement of the tire's inner carcass temperature alongside pressure. Carcass temperature is a read on the tire's bulk/mechanical grip, giving a longer-term view of tire behavior that surface temperature alone doesn't show.

  • 110° total infrared field of view, sub-divided into 16 pixels
  • Select 5 of the 16 pixels at build time to be transmitted in the sensor's datagram
  • Same 0–3.50 Bar pressure range and fast-transmit behavior as the standard sensor
  • Carcass temperature range: -50°C to +205°C
  • 46±1g, 1 season typical life
InfraRed (IR) TPMS Wheel Unit Sensor Requires TLM Corner Modules

IR sensors transmit through the TLM's per-corner LF antennas — they aren't compatible with Auto-Locator-only setups. If you're planning to add IR sensors down the road, spec your system with TLM from the start.

Optional

Trigger Hand Scanner — Your Pit Lane Tool

A handheld RF + LF tool for whoever is confirming tire pressure and temperature as the car leaves or enters the pits, or right after tire mounting. No need to be near the RCU — the Trigger talks to each wheel sensor directly.

  • Reads pressure, temperature, sensor ID, and battery status on demand
  • View a full set of tires at once, or drill into a single sensor
  • Forces sensors into permanent transmit for paddock monitoring in heating huts or tire blankets
  • Rechargeable Li-ion, USB-B charging, IP65 sealed

Beru BF1 Sensors — Now Available, and In Stock

OnRace wheel sensors can be built and programmed as exact drop-in replacements for genuine Beru F1 TPMS sensors — same fit, same permit list, no software changes. They're significantly less expensive than OE Beru sensors, and unlike Beru, we actually have them in stock.

F1-100-1800-002 F1-100-1521-011 F1-100-1521-010 F1-100-1521-012
  • 117g lighter than the OE Beru sensor
  • 2 Lighter sensor allows an aluminum valve stem instead of Beru's steel stem — 38g less rotating mass in total (71g OE assembly vs. 33g)
  • 3 Same 1Hz update rate as Beru's "Pro" sensors

At 150mph on an 18" rim, that weight difference works out to roughly 168 lbs less centripetal force per wheel (145 vs. 313 lbs). Send us your current Beru sensor numbers and we'll build exact copies — no need to update your permit list.
