The MM5.10 IMU Sensor from Bosch Motorsport is a combination of 3 linear and 2 rotational accelerometers that was designed to precisely measure the physical effects of rotational and linear acceleration and providing the vehicle dynamics data at a high speed 1 Mbaud/s CAN signal output.
In order to achieve this, the Bosch IMU MM5.10 sensor includes MEMS (micro-electromechanical) measuring elements which are connected to an appropriate integrated circuit.
A rotational acceleration around the integrated sensing elements generates a Coriolis force which changes the internal capacity of the micromachined sensing parts. Furthermore, a pure surface micromachined element is used to measure the vehicle linear acceleration in all 3-axis.
