The Basics
How the system works
Every OnRace TPMS system is built from the same three building blocks. What changes between setups is how the sensors get located to a corner, and how the RCU picks up their signal.
Wheel Sensors
A powered sensor at each valve hole measures pressure and temperature and transmits it over RF, changing to a faster transmit rate automatically under acceleration.
Receiver Control Unit (RCU)
The RCU, mounted in the car, picks up the RF signal from all four sensors in real time and figures out which wheel is which.
CAN Output
Pressure, temperature, and diagnostic data are sent out over CAN bus (up to 1Mbps) straight into your logger or display.
Step 1: Choose Your Receiver
Gen 4 (Dual Antenna) vs. Gen 5 (Single Antenna) RCU
Both RCUs run the same electronics and both work with the Auto-Locator left/right side sensors by rotation direction, or the Tire Location Module (TLM) sensors. The decision between them almost always comes down to one thing: how much carbon fiber is between the RCU and the wheels, and whether you need the extra reception margin that gives you.

Step 2: Choose How Sensors Get Located
Auto-Locator Sensors vs. the TLM System
Both methods use the exact same wheel sensor hardware, the difference is entirely in how the system figures out which corner each sensor is sitting on.

Infrared (IR) Tire Carcass Temperature Sensors
Now available! An evolution of the standard wheel sensor that adds real-time infrared measurement of the tire's inner carcass temperature alongside pressure. Carcass temperature is a read on the tire's bulk/mechanical grip, giving a longer-term view of tire behavior that surface temperature alone doesn't show.
- 110° total infrared field of view, sub-divided into 16 pixels
- Select 5 of the 16 pixels at build time to be transmitted in the sensor's datagram
- Same 0–3.50 Bar pressure range and fast-transmit behavior as the standard sensor
- Carcass temperature range: -50°C to +205°C

Requires TLM Corner Modules
IR sensors transmit through the TLM's per-corner LF antennas — they aren't compatible with Auto-Locator-only setups. If you're planning to add IR sensors down the road, spec your system with TLM from the start.

OnRace wheel sensors can be built and programmed as exact drop-in replacements for genuine Beru F1 TPMS sensors — same fit, same permit list, no software changes. They're significantly less expensive than OE Beru sensors, and unlike Beru, we actually have them in stock.
